Mediterranean Style of Eating Ranked Best Diet of 2024

The mediterranean diet has long been a favorite of cardiologists. The mix of unsaturated fats, proteins and complex carbohydrates helps to focus on diet quality rather than a single nutrient. Following this way of eating has been shows to reduce the risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes. The U.S. News & World News ranked the mediterranean diet as the best diet overall for the seventh year in a row. 

Dr. Ketan Trivedi, President and Chief Medical Officer of Virginia Heart, follows this way of eating with his whole family. He shared one of his favorite salmon recipes that doesn't take more than 15 minutes of active cooking time! 

Salmon

Ingredients:


2 filets Wegman’s EU organic salmon
Olive oil
½ cup low sodium soy sauce
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
¼ cup orange juice
2 cloves chopped garlic
1-2 inches grated ginger
Black pepper to taste

Directions: 

Mix the last 6 ingredients in a deep dish or plastic bag and marinate the salmon for 30 minutes or up to 2 hours, then remove from the marinade.

If grilling: Heat the grill to medium-high. Oil the grates and then cook skin side down for 4 minutes, then flip and cook for 2 additional minutes (for medium). 

If baking: Heat the oven to 375 degrees and bake uncovered skin sided down for 8-10 minutes.
