FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 18, 2025
Leesburg, VA- Virginia Heart is proud to announce that Dr. Rajat Garg has successfully performed the first renal denervation procedure at Inova Loudoun Hospital, marking a significant milestone in the treatment of drug-resistant hypertension.
Renal Denervation, also called renal ablation, is a minimally invasive and FDA-approved procedure to treat resistant hypertension. This novel procedure uses radiofrequency (RF) energy to help lower blood pressure by targeting the nerves in the kidneys, giving new hope to patients with hypertension resistant to traditional treatment.
Dr. Rajat Garg, a board-certified interventional cardiologist at Virginia Heart, performed the procedure in close collaboration with the expert medical team at Inova Loudoun Hospital. “We are honored to offer this groundbreaking treatment to our patients,” said Dr. Garg. “This procedure underscores our commitment to offering the most advanced care to our community.”
Hypertension is a leading risk factor for heart disease, stroke, and kidney failure. About 29% of adults in the United States have high blood pressure and about 12% of them have resistant hypertension.
