Jennifer Shea, MD, FACC specializes in cardio-oncology, echocardiography and women's heart health as well as general and preventative cardiology. She is board certified in cardiovascular disease and adult comprehensive echocardiography.
Most recently, Dr. Shea helped to establish the Cardio-Oncology Clinic at the Inova Schar Cancer Institute. She also serves as the Medical Director of the Echocardiography Lab at Virginia Heart and the Medical Director of Cardiac Rehabilitation at Inova Fairfax Hospital.
Dr. Shea became interested in cardiology as a third-year medical student, who on her first day at Fairfax Hospital triaged a patient in the emergency room who was having a heart attack. Dr. Joe Kiernan came to take the patient to the catheterization lab and asked Dr. Shea if she wanted to tag along and watch the procedure. She was immediately hooked and now works alongside Dr. Kiernan as part of the Virginia Heart team.
In her free time, Dr. Shea enjoys camping and hiking and takes an annual week-long backcountry camping trip. She is also a loyal fan of all local DC sports teams.
“The goal for my cardio-oncology patients is to allow them to receive their full course of chemotherapy while hopefully preventing future cardio-toxic side effects. Cardio-oncology has come a long way since its inception and we are excited to offer this service to the Northern Virginia community.”Credentials
