Karan Desai ,

Karan Desai, MD, FACC specializes in general non-invasive cardiology and advanced echocardiography. He is board certified in cardiovascular disease, adult echocardiography, and internal medicine. He has a special interest in the management of valvular heart disease, ischemic heart disease, heart failure, and critically ill cardiac patients. Dr. Desai completed his internal medicine training at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, where he was the Assistant Chief of Service. He completed his cardiology fellowship and advanced echocardiography training at the University of Maryland Medical Center. 

Prior to joining Virginia Heart, Dr. Desai was on faculty at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and was the Assistant Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. Dr. Desai has received teaching awards each year as a trainee and faculty and was involved with cardiovascular education nationally through the CardioNerds platform.

As a cardiologist, Dr. Desai strives to partner with patients to develop individualized treatment plans that best meet each patient’s needs, unique physiology, and life circumstances. 

In his free time, Dr. Desai enjoys traveling and exploring Northern Virginia with his wife, Neena, and young kids, as well as rooting for all Philadelphia sports teams
